Sterilization & Infection Control

Sterilized Instrument Pouch This is probably the single most important thing that we can do for our patients. It helps to keep us all safe from the spread of germs and infection. Our office uses methods of cleaning that involve disinfection and sterilization of everything that might come in contact with a patient during their dental treatment. Rest assured that when you walk into our office, you are stepping into a safe and caring environment where we have taken all available precautions to ensure your continued health and well-being.

  • Sterilization – any instruments or tools used in treatment that can be heated with steam and pressure to kill all bacteria, viruses, or spores that can spread infection.
  • Disinfection – any surfaces in the treatment room such as chairs, countertops, or hoses that can’t be heated are wiped with cleaners that kill the germs that can spread infection.
  • Single-use disposable items – these are items such as suction tips, water cups, bibs, or chair covers that are used once for a patient then disposed of in order to prevent the spread of infection.

At the office, we have an entire room dedicated to our sterilization processes. Autoclave ovens are used to steam sterilize all of our instruments and wrappings keep them sealed until they are ready for use with your dental treatment. Disinfection washers are used to initially remove germs and debris from used instruments before they are put in the autoclaves.
